FAQs

Will There Be a Permanent Record of Having Applied for Debt Review?

Short answer:

No, there will be no record of having undergone and completed debt review on your credit profile with credit bureaus.

Long answer:

When a consumer applies for debt review, the consumer’s profile is flagged as under debt review with the credit bureaus, meaning this reflects on your credit record. After you as the consumer pay off your debts, your debt counsellor issues a clearance certificate and simultaneously notifies all credit bureaus that you have paid off all your obligations.

The credit bureaus will then remove the debt review flag from your profile. Within one month, the "under debt review" flag on your profile is removed completely. There will be no permanent record of you having undergone debt counselling. Therefore, the consumer can get new credit after applying for and successfully completing debt review. The consumer should be able to attain a good credit score as they build a new credit history.
